Cleveland area faces regional income drain as residents move south

Cuyahoga County remains populous and wealthy but now exports more people and income to Florida, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada. From 1995 to 2000 Florida welcomed 90,833 Ohio movers, and Collier County saw Cleveland area money flow exceed all metros except Minneapolis-St Paul and Greater Chicago. Between 1996 and 2002 northeast Ohio lost about $112 million to Columbus as residents relocated to Franklin and Delaware counties, while Sum mit and Lorain counties drew substantial sums away. Local leaders plan regional summits to boost cooperation as the trend extends beyond the central city.
