Man sentenced to die for University of Nebraska student murder
Roger Bjorklund, 32, convicted of kidnapping, torture, rape, and murder of 18 year old Candice Harris, a University of Nebraska freshman. Judge Endacott condemned the crime as heinous and sentenced Bjorklund to the electric chair while another co‑defendant received a life term. Harris’s body was found in a shallow grave after more than two months.

Activist guilty of noise violation in Florida clinic case
An Escambia County jury convicted anti abortion activist Paul Hill of a misdemeanor noise violation for taunting patients outside a Pensacola abortion clinic prior to the killings of Dr. John Britton and escort James Barrett. He was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

Condemned bear wins reprieve from governor
Samson the 400-pound bear trapped for losing fear of people near Monrovia and La Canada in Los Angeles County received a reprieve as Gov Pete Wilson considered asylum at a wildlife station.
