Middleburg Heights Eyes 0.5 Percent Income Tax Hike

Middleburg Heights considers raising the city income tax from 1 to 1.5 percent to cover budget gaps caused by unbudgeted employee pay raises, court costs, higher Blue Cross fees, utility rate hikes, and a more costly rubbish contract. About 80 percent of residents work outside the city and would gain a full tax credit for wages earned elsewhere. The plan, approved by City Council, is set for the November 6 ballot.
