Reagan urged to roll back 1982 budget cuts

Washington sources say Republican leaders Howard Baker and Bob Michel warned President Reagan to drop or modify the proposed 16 billion in 1982 budget cuts. They doubted congressional passage and urged retreat on Social Security deferral and other guaranteed benefits. A six month delay in the 25 percent tax cut was discussed but not moved to the White House. Deputy Press Secretary Speakes said Reagan is reviewing all proposals from Stockman and Congress.
