Cattle Market Shows Upturn in Central Ohio Demand
Columbus Ohio September 23 An improvement in cattle market arrivals was reported by H B Curry head of the Ohio Farm Bureau Research Department. Eastern shippers and local buyers are buying freely due to cooler weather and better beef outlet. Iowa steers are selling at new top prices for the season while hog prices show a slight upturn and lambs remain slow and uneven with western lambs needing shipment within 60 days to avoid cold weather. Supplies are ample keeping prices down to relatively low levels with best lambs about a dollar under last year’s lows since 1911.

Pre-War Lady and two soldiers meet at a New York club
In 1982 Roger Bearlett and fellow officers attend a night club in New York with Esther, 17, Kay Gardner, and Dick Stoddard. A masked performer called the Pré-war Lady stirs memories for all, especially Emilia and Roger, as Robin Valary plays piano and the household gathers, tying past romance to present duty. The scene shifts to the Valary mansion on the Hudson, where family ties, war, and longing intersect as Roger arrives with Esther and Emilia’s song echoes through the room. The chapter ends with a sense of shelter and old world values persisting amid change.
