Son testifies in Young shotgun murder trial

Spencer man dies after 13th operation in nine years

Frank Slim Schaub, 34, of Spencer, died in Lodi Hospital from complications after his 13th operation in nine years. Confined to bed or wheelchair since 1958, he remained hopeful, sharing interests like drawing and stamp collecting while lifetime on Smith Road was centered in his east room. Born near Amherst, he grew up on a farm between Elyria and Oberlin and moved to Spencer in 1951. Death shocked the small community after news of planned surgery to improve his condition.

Ole Miss officials face contempt citations in Meredith case

In Meridian Mississippi UPI reports three University of Mississippi officials James Meredith and state officials face possible contempt after refusing to admit a Negro student to the white only university in Oxford. Judge Sidney Mize ordered Chancellor John Davis Williams Arthur Lewis and registrar Robert Ellis to show cause at 3 30 p m EDT. Meredith 29 year old Negro Air Force veteran was turned away amid shouts of nigger from students as Governor Barnett defended federal desegregation orders.

Democratic leaders pushed for swift House passage of a Cuban resolution and a bill to call up extra reservists amid reports of a continuing Soviet arms buildup in Cuba. Seven survive crash of UN plane in Katanga region

UPI reports seven of ten Swedish officers aboard a United Nations DC3 were found alive after the crash near Kihumba on the Katanga Kasai border in northern Katanga. One died and two others’ status unclear as Swedish defense ministries confirmed the wreckage, with four uninjured and three injured.

Columbia Go Kart Track to Lose Conditional Permit

The Columbia Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously revokes the conditional zoning permit for the Columbia Go-Kart Track effective Oct. 1 after a hearing.
