At Sea on a Deluxe Trans Atlantic Liner
A diarist aboard a deluxe trans Atlantic liner reflects on the voyage during the Depression. The 800 passenger list is trimmed to about 400, wage cuts and rate slicing noted, but service remains strong. The writer mocks class distinctions, recounts encounters with passengers and crew, and observes life aboard from steerage to first class, including a newborn baby, palatial meals, and social diversions.
