Thousand-plus homes destroyed by California wildfires

Two Northern California fires have destroyed over 1,000 homes with damage assessments still underway. In Amador Calaveras counties 503 homes were confirmed lost, while Lake County fire destroyed 585 homes with hundreds of structures damaged. Evacuations affected about 19,000 residents as containment rose in the larger blaze and return was allowed for Middletown residents.
