Widow and son sue to undo Culverhouse gift at Alabama
The Culverhouse family seeks to withdraw a $10 million pledge and remove the Culverhouse name from the University of Alabama business school. Alabama counters that the agreement is valid and a prior estate trust and gifts explain the delay in renaming. The dispute follows decades of controversy over the donor’s wealth and control of the funds.

A team led by Joe Saunders of Northeast Louisiana University dates a 11 mound complex near Watson Brake to 5 000 to 5 400 years ago, 2 000 years earlier than Egypt’s first pyramids. The site shows earthen walls, few artifacts, and no ceramic remains, suggesting mound building as purpose or ritual.
