Township trustees back insurance option bill and group purchase plan

Lorain County Association of Township Trustees and Clerks voted to support House Bill 470 offering townships the option to provide medical insurance for part time workers. The group also endorsed House Bill 176 restoring some sovereign immunity for public officials and discussed a proposed group purchase of liability coverage to cut costs. Representatives will send letters to lawmakers and conduct a survey as nine to ten townships show interest in forming a purchasing group. A separate seminar on the Fair Labor Standards Act was announced for Wednesday sponsored by county officials.

Search for rapist goes beyond nursing home

Warren police chief says the investigation into the pregnancy of a 24 year old quadriplegic woman in a coma will not be limited to the nursing home she lives in. He insists any male could be the suspect and that the case is treated as rape due to lack of consent. The home has about 150 employees, few of whom are men. The resident has been at Gullette's Country Place since 1979 after an auto accident. The woman was hospitalized for an illness and found to be more than four months pregnant. The guardian and family must decide whether to continue the pregnancy. A private investigator was hired and a $5,000 reward offered for information leading to conviction. The incident was reported September 10. Health Enterprises of America owns 62 nursing homes.
