Beirut U S Embassy annex blast injures many and kills
A van loaded with hazardous material exploded near the U S Embassy annex in east Beirut injuring about 60 people and killing at least 23. Islamic Holy War claimed responsibility as ambulances rushed to the Ankar district scene near the embassy where ambassadors were on the top floor. U S officials reported several Americans among the injured with some initially feared dead but later clarified as not confirmed.
