Desegregation expert Glatt killed in Dayton federal building
Dr. Charles A. Glatt, a nationally known desegregation consultant, was shot to death in a Dayton federal building where he was drafting an integration plan for city schools. Neal Bradley Long, 48, a former mental patient and service station attendant, was charged with murder on federal property. A security guard quoted Long saying he did what he had to do as he fled the scene. Glatt, 47, died after four gunshots to neck, chest, and abdomen. Long faced arraignment with no plea and no bail. Glatt had worked on desegregation plans in Indianapolis, Detroit, Columbus, and North Carolina and was recruited to improve Dayton’s plan by September 1976.
