$60 000 Blaze Destroys Burns Block in North Olmsted
Five fire departments fought a $60,000 blaze that destroyed the Burns block in North Olmsted shopping district on Lorain Road. Discovered around 10 PM, the fire caused major losses to Bove's Drug Store Betsy Jane novelty store and United Food Store. The Atlantic and Pacific grocery was badly damaged. Fire crews from Rocky River Dover Fairview and Bay Village assisted. About 1500 spectators watched the effort as walls remained standing.

Robert E. Hakes, 63, deputy county auditor and former Lorain grocer, died of a heart attack Saturday in Bucyrus while visiting a brother. In poor health for some time, he suffered attacks in Florida and at Daytona Beach and St. Petersburg during a vacation. Survived by wife and two children Sheldon and LaVerne. Funeral services set for 2 PM at the Hakes home on East Erie Avenue in Lorain.

Injuries Fatal To Oberlin Woman
