Trooper Kenneth Velez Laid to Rest in Lorain Funeral
Dozens of police escorted the body of Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez to a Lorain funeral home after he was struck and killed Thursday while conducting traffic enforcement on I 90 in Lakewood. Velez, a Lorain resident, leaves three children and his parents and siblings. a large law enforcement procession filled East 31st Street and Pearl Avenue as family and friends gathered outside the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home.

Suspect in fatal crash to appear in court today
Joshua Gaspar, 37, of Columbia Station, charged with aggravated vehicular homicide after striking Trooper Kenneth Velez on I 90 in Lakewood. Police say he was under the influence when the 12 45 p m crash occurred and he faces Cleveland Municipal Court appearance this morning. Trooper Velez was conducting traffic enforcement in the berm.
