Tales of a Grandfather Endures in Lorain County History
A Lorain County Historical Society contributor recalls family legends from early Ohio settlement. Moses Deming crossed from New York in 1762 with two oxen and a wagon to settle near Herdscrabie, facing wolves and a night of fear followed by a dream of wolves singing a hymn about Deming and Bronson. An itinerant German shoemaker named Rich ter visits yearly to fit the family with shoes, while a local tailor and mayoral rumor, plus civic life, weave through memory.
