Ohio Supreme Court settles Lorain County probation funding dispute
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled the Lorain County General Division judges overstepped their authority by ordering funding from the county commissioners for probation security costs. The ruling comes as plans to consolidate probation offices in the former courthouse proceed, with projected renovation costs of 2.6 to 3 million dollars. Commissioner Matt Lundy welcomed the decision ending a yearlong feud over security funding once earmarked for Sheriff Stammitts.

Lorain residents Burkhammer and Shaffer say a $350 April 28 2014 receipt from Vision Property Management covered point-of-sale water and electric inspections for 4132 Fulton Road. They allege a clerk with a clipboard falsely represented a housing inspector approved occupancy, while eviction papers surfaced weeks later as they paid $442 monthly under a land contract. The city official notes Kaja Holdings LLC lacked the required point-of-sale inspection after acquiring the property.
