Nicaragua Troops Recapture Leon From Guerrillas

Nicaragua's National Guard said it recaptured Leon the nation s second largest city from Sandinista guerrillas in the week s fiercest fighting. Troops used tanks artillery and jets as residents fled and some Americans pleaded to be evacuated. The guard also claimed success in Esteli though reports from travelers suggested guerrillas still controlled much of the town.

Mideast summit to end Sunday at Camp David

Participants in the Mideast summit said they would wind up the unprecedented conference on Sunday though differences remain in important areas. White House spokesman Jody Powell said it was impossible to predict success and noted progress in some key areas while Egypt and Israel join the United States in the statement. United Way of Lorain County aims for record 1978 drive

The United Way of Greater Lorain County launches its 1978 fundraising campaign with a goal of 2 425 000 dollars backed by more than a thousand volunteers through seven weeks ending November 8. Resource Center Inc will receive support for the first time beginning in 1979, and the goal is 9.7 percent above last year’s 2 210 000. John H. Clark, Ford Lorain Assembly Plant controller and campaign chairman, says most divisions have started, with key meetings set for October 11 18 and 25 to reach about half the target.
