Contested will filed by daughter of Mrs Patterson
Countess Felicia Grzycka filed a federal suit in Washington to contest the will of her late mother Eleanor M Patterson publisher of the Washington Times Herald. She alleges her mother was not of sound mind and that undue influence and coercion were used. Patterson left the paper to seven executives while bequeathing property and $25,000 a year for life to her daughter. The estate is estimated at $15 million with the Times Herald valued at $7 to $8 million. The countess asks for a jury trial.

Farmers Suspect Smoke Screen In Price Complaints
Columbus Ohio farmers question a smoke screen of price complaints arguing labor costs and wages rose faster than farm product prices. M G Smith of Ohio State University cites 1935 39 wage dollars and 1948 wage data showing city workers spending more on food and goods while farm income fell. He notes food prices rose but farm prices declined and urges careful comparison of income, prices, and wages across sectors.

Prize Steer Grooming Rules Highlight Showmanship
Des Moines report outlines strict steer show rules for 4-H and commercial livestock events. Tail dipped to the switch and brushed, clipper marks penalized, coat must be dry, and oil kept light to avoid hair clumping. Steers may wear smooth or curled coats to fit their personality, with curls masking conformation weaknesses.

Ohio agronomists urge harvest to boost legume seed supply
Ohio State agronomists warn nearing spring will see tight seed supplies of red clover and alfalfa adapted for Ohio and northern states with high prices expected. They note heavy corn, small grains, and soybean production in the past decade reduced legume seed availability and raise demand.

Ohio seed choices favor hardy legumes for Ohio winters
Agronomists say reduced clover and alfalfa acreage means some grain and soybean yields are lower, urging farmers to focus on soil building. Ohio grown legume seeds resist winter, unlike southern seed which risks winter kill before hay harvest.
