The New York Central grade crossing elimination moves forward as the first elevated track opens for service with 74-car westbound freight harnessed. A second track will be usable within a week, and all westbound passenger trains switch next Sunday.
Ford will keep his Detroit plants open and not close them as warned three weeks ago. The Detroit Times cites reliable sources and says eighty thousand workers remain employed, with Ford officials declining to comment when International News Service sought confirmation.
Los Angeles reports William Hart, the movie star, has settled $200000 with his wife Winifred Weatover and their newborn son. Mrs Hart plans to file for divorce. Hart met his son for the first time since their separation, but the reunion did not reconcile the couple.

Washington September 14 Without a record vote the House adopted the conference report on the soldiers bonus bill and sent it to the Senate. The measure preserved the bill largely as originally passed, while the Senate conferees dropped demands for payment of bonus from foreign loan receipts and for the Smith McNary land reclamation project for returning veterans. Republican Leader Mendel attacked the conferees for removing land reclamation plans but failed to restore that provision.
Lansing report says Joseph G Gourflay a 42 year old Weat Junior High School teacher was arraigned in justice court and jailed on $1560 bail after a pupil Irene Davis fourteen accused him of a serious crime. Gourlay and the girl disappeared last June. he later worked as advance agent for a Chau tauqua company and returned to teaching. The girl returned to town and recounted spending summer with Gourlay and an attempted assault before Iowa trip. Prosecutor Bolcé urged a warrant and Gourlay was arrested at home. he is married with three children. In Atlanta Difford Walker won the Democratic primary for governor defeating Thomas W Marwick.
