Couple gives away Ohio farm to save it from developers
Sally and Lyle Loomis donated 80 acres near Bowling Green to Wood County Park District to become a working historical farm. The couple, aging 89 and 92, say the gift preserves the family heritage for 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren while protecting the land from nearby development.

Farm easement preserves land and buildings for future
The Black Swamp Conservancy drew up a conservation easement to keep farmland productive and maintain farm structures after owners pass on. The document, praised as user friendly, lets landowners shield property from development by donating or selling development rights to townships cities counties or the Ohio Department of Agriculture under new state law. Mrs Loomis, born on the Carter family farm bought in 1901, recalled helping with milking and hay, memories of swimming with sisters, a 25 cent reward ritual, and riding a rented horse named Molly that she finally bought in a happy moment.
