Apple Corps members Lyle Crosby John Blevins and Bill Fitch celebrate the kickoff of Elyria Apple Festival's 10th annual event at a press party. Some 300 enthusiasts attended at the Lorain County Bank Annex as the festival plans a Friday to Sunday run.
Elyria school board weighs adding steroids to the banned substances list after Gordon Dupree proposes a district policy update at a work session. The plan targets artificial hormones used in bodybuilding and would strengthen disciplinary rules.
A stove fire at 307 W. 13th Street in Lorain caused over 13000 in damage. Firefighters forced entry as the tenant was away. The blaze remained in the kitchen with smoke damage on the first floor. No injuries reported. Reported 10 59 a m and extinguished after 90 minutes.
Oberlin school board considers a no school no drive policy as required by a state law. The plan would suspend drivers licenses of students under 18 who quit school unless they transfer districts or enroll in another approved program. A petition to restore a license would be filed with the juvenile court judge.
Judge Friday presided on August 24 over cases including Richard Jelovich of North Ridgeville receiving 80 days in jail with 87 suspended on reimbursements, two years probation, and two years good behavior for assault. Robert James Yohe cited for theft with 10 days jail suspended and one year good behavior. Scott Saunders of Brook Park charged with DUI $350 fine 30 days jail 60 days driving suspension and probation terms. Stephen Bugg with no license fined $150 30 days jail with suspend and other probation conditions.
