Democrats sue over Stans role in DNC bugging case
The amended suit accuses Maurice H. Stans and Hugh Sloan of providing $114,000 in unreported funds to pay a so called political espionage squad led by G. Gordon Liddy and E. Howard Hunt Jr. The Democrats seek $3 million in damages and accuse Stans of directing the operation while McGregor calls the charges political libel and warns of a countersuit.

Middle American Dem wavering on McGovern in AP study
Richard J. Johnson, 43, a Chicago area credit manager living in Rolling Meadows, is the typical midwestern Democrat undecided about voting for McGovern in November. He admires McGovern as a person yet seeks more dynamism and remains wary after Eagleton’s withdrawal. Johnson traveled with the McGovern campaign from Los Angeles to Des Moines and cites income concerns and Nixon’s four-year incumbency as factors. Public TV will air a follow-up on Johnson’s week with the campaign.
