Dr. Walter B. Pitkin, author and educator, will summarize Elyria residents’ responses from more than 2,000 questionnaires at Elyria High School tonight at 8 p.m. The program includes discussion on the Better Elyria Plan and aims to outline Elyria’s path forward.

Wilbur H. Phillips, 63, Oberlin publisher and editor of the Oberlin News Tribune, died of heart trouble at home on King Street. Survived by wife, four daughters, two sisters, three brothers. funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Phillips home.
Two inmates broke from a second floor cell block via a spoon-handle key and skylight to the jail roof last night in Elyria. Deputies surrounded the building as the pair surrendered at gunpoint. Koroski and Smith face long sentences, with Sheriff Finegan seeking better interior locks and tighter cell control.
In Dover Ohio on a steep hillside a concealed plow furrow caused a tractor to overturn, killing Charles S. Specht, 57, and injuring his son Emerson, 28, who was pinned by a wheel while trying to steady the machine. A neighbor, Arther Specht, heard the cries for help.

Columbus Ohio September 12 4UP Upheld petitions for Bigelow pension proposals. Secretary Earl Griffith certified that 67 755 more signatures were needed to place the plan on the November ballot. Sponsors have 10 days to note a motion to amend.
London dispatches report Polish ministry of information claims counterattacks west of Warsaw repelled German thrusts from the north as four German tanks reached Skaryszew and two were disabled or captured. The Polish army reportedly moved north of Warsaw between the Narva and Bug rivers while heavy losses were inflicted on German units attempting to breach the city.
U S Senator Gerald Nye joined Senator William Borah to reiterate the Senate Isolation Bloc demand that the arms embargo remain intact. Nye vows a last ditch fight against altering the embargo clause of the neutrality law. President Roosevelt weighs a possible special session to seek neutrality law revision amid allied doubts and White House briefings.
