The Loeb and Leopold case moves to Joliet Illinois as convicts 9305 and 9306 face Defense Day under tight security. A near miss with a speeding train earlier highlighted the peril surrounding their transfer, with journalists and deputies narrowly preventing catastrophe.
The Ohio Federation of Labor endorsed Senator Robert M. LaFollette for president and Senator Burton K. Wheeler for vice president. Delegates voted viva voce at the convention in Springfield Ohio, stating the independent candidates are most friendly to the laboring people of Ohio.
At the Ohio Federation of Machinists annual convention in Springfield William Tate of Akron was elected president George L Renner of Springfield vice president R B White head of Oberlin secretary and treasurer Gwilym Jones Elyria elected to the state executive committee and to represent the local at the Detroit convention next Wy The next convention will be at the same time and place as the Ohio State Federation of Labor 1925 convention Tickets: none.
French occupation troops evacuated country districts around Dortmund Bochrum and Gelsenkirchen today near Essen as World War II activity continued In the Ruhr region authorities reported movement of civilian areas and military posts in the area with no immediate details on casualties or settlements.
Gov. Al Smith of New York Senator Pat Harrison and William Jennings Bryan will headline a Democratic speakers’ tour of Ohio for at least one week this fall, announced by party chairman Thomas E. Dye.
Three 17 year old Lorain youths Rudolph Tamasek Fred Berbak and Steve Coerna were arrested after a hold up and shooting of L C Colson near the East Bridge street undercut. Tamasek had an automatic revolver but claimed the shot was accidental. All will be taken before Juvenile Judge H C Wilcox for disposition.
A probate hearing before Judge H C Wilcoxson debated a paper presented as Henry Kohlmyer’s will. The document allegedly promised Frances Holden twenty five thousand dollars cash and a house in Lorain. Kohlmyer’s relatives contend the paper is not a will but a conditional agreement voided by death.
The Democratic executive committee met last evening and elected T. C. Conway chairman June T. Shibley vice-chairman Nellie Rothgery secretary Howard Cobb assistant secretary and Theodore Freese treasurer. A finance committee was appointed by the chair consisting of J. B. Seward June Shibley Theodore Freese Roy Moulton Mary Blackman B. N. Harris and Geo Moehle. Seventeen of the twenty one members were present and reported bright prospects for a Democratic State and National ticket.
Four men robbed the Quality Tailor Shop on South Lorain in daylight this morning taking about 700 in cloth bolts. Two upstairs observers fired bullets. thieves escaped. No suspects yet identified.

Athens generals Tsioulis and Psagotopoulos arrested for trying to foment a military revolt to overthrow the regime. London reports Spain facing civil war due to Moroccan front reverses. Rome Olindo Fiorani director of Banque Hondi arrested for disseminating false information as authorities close the bank and seize books.
Defense Day demonstrations in Elyria and Lorain county tonight will be patriotic with ex service men. Major J F Murbach leads the effort urging citizens to display colors and march in the 7 pm parade headed by the Boys Band. Speakers follow at 8 pm with veterans groups joining the event.
Lorain County Farmers picnic is set for Avon Park tomorrow with prizes for contests and a ball game offering 15 dollars. Avon A Co faces Ohio Public Service in the featured matchup attracting a large crowd.
Reports from Toledo and Yokosuka detail a spree of disasters. In Ohio Dr J J Boone Earl Tapp and Dr Oscar Pettiford face federal narcotics charges with Boone and Tapp convicted of conspiracy. Pettiford receives 15 months, Tapp to await sentencing. In Japan, two torpedo boats sank after a collision near Yokosuka with 65 survivors and over 50 drowned. Another express train derailed near Hiroshima after a landslide, killing 11 and injuring 50.
Italian deputy Armando Casalini, a Fascist member of the chamber of deputies, was shot at his Villa estate in Milan and died hours later. Police say Antonio Corsi acted with a political motive, claiming to avenge Socialist Deputy Matteotti. police found pictures of Matteotti in Corsi’s pockets.
The Red Cross reports relief expenditures through Sept 10 totaling 512,000 with 490,000 given to families and 12,200 to aid business men. Lorain business men plan a fall festival next Wednesday and Thursday with about 1,500 in prizes and city decorations.
BELIEVE MOTHER KILLED THREE BABIES. Mrs Bella Saunders will be tried for attempted murder after allegedly burying her newborn in woods near Terhème. Police search for two more suspected infant graves as husband Eugene Saunders suspects prior disappearances. The newborn survives. Saunders remains hospitalized under guard.
News wires announce General John J. Pershing will retire from the army at noon tomorrow after completing forty two years of service and will relinquish his post as chief of staff. Other dispatches report John W. Davis's westward keynote aimed at the Coolidge administration over the national oil scandal. President Coolidge designates October 4 as national fire prevention day marking the Chicago fire anniversary. Reports deny Edward Albert Prince of Wales attended the Wills Firpe bout in Syosset. A Joliet convict comments on liberty in Loeb Leopold case. Wheeler on rail legislation in Pennsylvania as vice presidential candidate on the La Follette Wheeler ticket.
