County sees fewer property tax dollars
Lorain County auditors report a sharp decline in personal property values for 2002, with total valuations dropping from about 417.4 million in 2001 to 219.6 million, a 43 percent fall driven by Republic Technologies International's bankruptcy and reorganization into Republic Engineered Products. Some firms like Invacare and Avon-area businesses bucked the trend, but overall districts face about a 5 million dollar hit in tax revenue.
