Ford Gets Billion Dollar Post Office Aid Bill
The House approved a 1 billion subsidy for the U.S. Postal Service with a proviso that no rate hikes or service cuts occur before March 15, 1977. The measure, likely to be signed by President Ford, creates a commission to propose a permanent solution by March. It funds the service through Sept. 30, 1977 and freezes rates until March with a 10 month waiting period for any future increases.
