Bids Come In Within Budget For French Creek Plant Phase
More than 15 million in apparent low bids, only 300000 over the original estimate, have been received for the French Creek Sewer District water treatment plant and interceptor line. OWDA chief engineer George Sheeter said bids cover about 80 percent of the 19.2 million project with construction possible this fall.

Amherst Officials Seek Three More Police to Face Shortage
Amherst safety director Harry Chambers and Police Chief Arthur Koppenhafer say the 11 member force is understaffed and plan to ask the city council to add three officers. Four night shift officers have had to handle fistfights alone while one is tied up on another call. Koppenhafer is preparing a fact sheet for the council as two officers have resigned and another is near resignation. Capt. Ed Kobal shifts to night duty to curb lone tackling of assaults. The meeting also heard Rick Sooy urge a youth center and funding from revenue sharing to redirect youths from the city hall lawn amid vandalism and harassment complaints. Mayor DePaola resisted the idea, citing irresponsible behavior and promising future talks with youths.
