A special village council meeting awarded the ambulance call contract to the Funeral Home after three bids were submitted. Joseph and Paul also bid, $200 and $315 respectively, but the Funeral Home bid was accepted due to existing equipment. Solicitor Torpe to draft legislation for a new tract to be presented at the September meeting.

Cpl. Alvi D. Norris the only Elyria prisoner of war released in Operation Big Switch is expected to arrive in San Francisco this Sunday on leave from the army. He was captured November 20, 1950 and held about two years nine months before release near Panmunjom on August 27. The War Department telegram said he would be processed at Ft. Mason or Camp Stoneman and given leave with no delay. His Cleveland arrival plans and Red Cross officials’ involvement will be announced next week.
In Rabat two terrorists rammed their car into the sultan’s procession as Sultan Sidi Mohammed Moulay Ben Arafa rode a white Arab charger to prayer. The sultan escaped unharmed as guards fired on the attackers. the driver died instantly and a companion was seized. The incident followed the sultan’s August enthronement and his approval of a new legislative council with French and Moroccan representatives.
The U S Naval Reserve Training Center in Lorain invites women ages 18 to 39 to open house on Sunday Sept 13 to recruit for the WAVE program and a special rating track. Twenty trainees will attend twice weekly sessions with Navy pay. uniforms and materials are provided.
