Committee Outlines Postwar Economy For 54 Million Jobs
Washington The special House committee on postwar plans offered a blueprint for a postwar economy aimed at providing between 54,000,000 and 58,000,000 jobs. Led by Rep. Whitman Colmer, the report calls for high production, a tax structure favoring personal income tax, and gradual wartime relief to lower and middle income groups. It envisions rapid reconversion, faster employment restoration, and expansion in industry with 250,000 jobs added in the first year after Japan’s defeat, plus measures for agriculture and government revenue.
