Refund of Taxes Authorized After Erroneous Collection
County Commissioners adopted a resolution directing Auditor Frank Ayres and Treasurer Walter J. Wright to prepare a special duplicate of around $3,000 to set aside funds for refunds of erroneously collected taxes on forfeited lands. Prosecutor Wickens noted a mandamus suit could compel refunds via Ohio Supreme Court if needed, as refunds require a court order despite the intent to return money. The taxes concerned were for deeds later deemed not chargeable if the lands’ sale occurred after a lien date.
