Former Elyria councilman Herman Larkins, 79, is due in Elyria Municipal Court today on aggravated menacing and domestic violence charges. He is jailed without bond at Lorain County Jail as police offered no details. Fellow council members express surprise and call his past service admirable.
Elyria High School resumes after a three day postponement due to the second phase of a $70 million building project. The district received the occupancy permit at 5 30 p m Thursday and openings will run with freshmen 9 00 to 11 30 a m and upperclassmen 1 00 to 2 30 p m for orientation and first day activities.
Lorain County Board of Elections may offer ballots in Spanish in the November 8 election after a meeting with U S Justice Department attorneys. Federal officials said bilingual ballots are required by law and noted a 59.9 percent rise in Puerto Rican residents since 1990.
