Cincinnati airport delays double as summer passes
Federal officials report Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport delays nearly doubled this summer despite a 5 percent drop in flights. FAA data show 464 delayed flights in June through August, a 94 percent rise from last summer, with 72.2 percent on schedule. YTD through July marks 2007 as the worst in over a decade. Officials cite overtaxed air traffic control and urge Congress to pass a bill to modernize equipment.

EPA warns of landslide risk at Stark County landfill
The Ohio EPA urged Countywide Recycling and Disposal Facility in Pike Township to check wall cracks and consider supports after crack widths reach half an inch. The landfill next to Interstate 77 handles about 6,000 tons daily and has faced odor and fire issues, with Republic Services of Ohio fined and required to improve containment. Company says cracks stem from normal settlement and areas near the 8B acre center show no movement. 66 iron pins installed and 1,000-foot highway clearance plus bermed wall reduce immediate danger.
