Aztec plans safer building after blast and fire
OSHA says Aztec will fix fire protections and safety gaps after last year’s chemical plant explosion. A new $4 million building will replace one of two destroyed structures and will not produce the dangerous chemical. The design includes gravity transfer, interlocks, computerized controls and a dump and quench system to neutralize spills and stop reactions. Construction could start this fall with operation by next summer.
