Former Lorain Countian and Wife Killed

A former Lorain Countian and his wife were killed near Kalamazoo Michigan yesterday afternoon when their automobile was struck by a train. The victims were Mr and Mrs Howard Tetehcok of Ashland. Tetehcok brothers reside in Lorain County. Mrs Hitchcock had worked at Gilbert's Furniture in Warren and lived in Ashland the past three years.

Mail Robbery Suspects Captured After Gun Battle

Two mail robbery suspects were captured in Lake City Minnesota after a gun battle at the railroad station baggage room. A third man escaped and may have been wounded. One captive was identified as R Peterson of Rochford Illinois. Precautions followed a prior week old theft of two pouches from the baggage room. Special Agent Frank Auman investigated and fired at the men, drawing the pursuit onto the platform.

Cuba Opposes Intervention Amid Havana Calm

In Havana on September 9 the Cuban executive committee solidified opposition to American intervention. Officials sought to lack any excuse for intervention yet used the threat to rally political leaders and officers to support national unity. The city remained unusually calm as the paper continues on page 2.

Hunt for missing airmen in Bennett Cup search

An extensive search is underway for crews of two balloons reported missing since taking off from Chicago in the James Gordon Bennett cup race. Ward T. Van Orman and Frank Trotter are named crew members of the Goodyear VII, which is missing alongside the Polish entry.

Sept 98 U S Army planes join search for four missing balloonists from the Gordon Bennett race after adverse weather delays. Many Apply for Home Loans in Lorain County

Army officer ready to act at Havana

Havana scene reports 300 officers within National Hotel pledging seizure of the Presidential Palace to restore the De Cespedes government. Dr Horacio Ferrer said the decision is final and Portela would be consulted. Officers claim broad support from many units and cities, and discuss a bloodless seizure plan.

Columbus notes the Joint Legislative Taxation Committee recessed after outlining a plan to fund weak school districts with about 58.5 million dollars through January 1, 1935. It aims to cover this year’s needs, possibly 3 million, and up to 6 million for next June, while considering taxes or a hard liquor levy after repeal to balance the budget. The panel left unsettled whether to use new taxes or a liquor-traffic funding approach.

Nine Men Face Junk Theft Charge

Nine Clevelanders are charged in warrants issued by the Nickel Plate Railroad as part of a major junk theft ring. The suspects allegedly stole scrap iron hauled away in trucks and railroad cars, dumped along the bank near the Elyria water works spur to prevent lake damage, and shipped some of the iron to Warren. Detective officers nabbed some members while transporting iron, with another gang allegedly loading a derailment car for a 53,900 pound shipment to Warren. Man Injured in Alleged Quarrel Near Elyria

Pope displeased with Hitler policy delays Vatican treaty

Vatican City September 9 The Pope will not ratify the German Vatican treaty while Adolf Hitler maintains current policies. A Vatican spokesman said conversations would pause during Cardinal Pacelli’s upcoming visit and ratification would be delayed. Pacelli will be away for about a month and the Vatican hopes Hitler may modify policies in that period. Reports say the Pope objects to Hitler’s religious policy and treatment of Cahes.

Shank To Go On Trial November 27 in Akron Case

Akron attorney Mark Shank will be tried November 27 on four indictments charging murder in the powering of Alvin Colley his wife and their two sons. Shank pleaded not guilty before the trial date was set. The Alvin Colley case is expected to be tried first by prosecutor Miller Herbert.
