OPSC hearings continue N plant needed for power reserve

At an Ohio Power Siting Commission hearing in Huron Ohio Edison argued the 296 billion Erie Nuclear Plant is needed to assure a power reserve and to support waste burial proposals. Lynn Firestone said CAPCO load forecasts were revised downward while still showing a need for the Berlin Heights plant by its planned 1986 and 1988 completion dates. The staff viewed a 1986 peak of about 15 000 megawatts per day, while Firestone cited a peak just under 16 000.
