Canada geese study aims to map year round presence Ohio
The Ohio Division of Wildlife starts a geese census from now through March to gauge year round populations and movements. Collared geese will be tracked to assess nesting areas and nuisance levels, guiding future seasons and bag limits.

The Vermilion Power Squadron offers safe boating classes at four locations starting this month. Courses run 12 weeks, two hours once weekly, covering boat handling docking navigational aids rules of the road and safety topics. Public urged to report poaching after highway deer shooting
Ohio wildlife officials appeal for public help following a three month old fawn shot Aug 4 near Columbus. The deer was rescued and later destroyed after paralysis from the injury. Authorities stress TIP secrecy and callers to 1-800 POACHER can remain anonymous to aid enforcement.

Turkey shoots at Berlin Heights Legion Hall and Lodi Gun Club
The Berlin Heights American Legion Hall on Rt. 61 north hosts Sunday turkey shoots through December at 1 p.m. Open to the public with prizes such as hams, turkeys, bacon and cash. The Lodi Gun Club runs Sunday shoots in September through November from 1 to 4 p.m. at Franchester Road two miles east of Lodi. In Lake Erie yellow perch anglers report good late summer action with minnows on bottom in 20 to 35 feet around reefs and islands. central basin perch near the intake crib off Cleveland. fish 8 to 11 inches. Western basin smallmouth bass thrive around islands with soft craws on rocky bottoms at 25 to 20 feet. Walleye activity central basin via planer boards and deep diving crank baits or spoons 8 to 12 miles from Fairport Harbor to Conneaut. occasional steelhead observed. Several reservoirs and creeks noted for bass, muskies, bluegills, crappies, catfish, and striped bass with location-specific bait and techniques.
