Lorain mayor condemned union call to merge safety and service posts
Lorain Mayor Joseph Zahorec called a police union leader’s suggestion to merge the safety director and service director roles during a financial crunch in poor taste. He noted former safety director Tony Murello’s death and said Lorain cannot run with one person per department, while both the current safety and service directors manage duties. He criticized Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 president Tom Cantu for the interview and stressed the need for a new safety director to be appointed soon.
