Sue the elephant wins first area race at Sheffield Center

Mike and Sue the elephant, nearly nine feet tall and weighing three tons, won a publicity stunt race at the Sheffield Shopping Center. Big Pete and Helen trailed as Daryl Coleman and John Moore watched. Trainer Fred Logan noted elephants' daily grain, hay, and water intake while the reporter admitted a quick assist to Pete.

Bomb blasts near White House and Soviet Aeroflot office shock D.C.

Two blasts rocked central Washington early today near the White House grounds and a Soviet Aeroflot office, injuring no one. One explosion occurred in cement flower pots 90 feet from the White House fence, while another hit the Aeroflot building adjacent to the Soviet Embassy. No injuries were reported. windows shattered at the Hilton and nearby structures. A caller claimed the act was by the Pedro Luis Boitel Commandos protesting Russia over Cuba and human rights in Cuba.

Legion disease linked to second death in Ohio

A woman suspected of Legionnaire's disease died at Riverside Hospital in Columbus as four other central Ohio cases were confirmed. Ohio Health Department spokesman Jon Christensen gave the update as authorities note the patient was suspected of having Legionnaire's disease when she died.
