Black September rises from Gaza shadows in Munich attack

The group Black September, linked to Al Fatah and PLO figures including Yasser Arafat, used covert cells to conduct high profile assaults. It claimed responsibility for the Munich Olympic massacre and earlier killings and sabotage against Israeli and Western targets in Europe.

Israeli Troops Enter Lebanon in Pursuit of Guerrillas

Israeli forces entered southern Lebanon chasing Arab guerrillas after a patrol killed one infiltrator and wounded another. In a separate incident, five Israelis and five guerrillas died in clashes near the border as East German Olympic threats raised security concerns. West German police hunted 15 gunmen still at large linked to the village attack, while Israeli athletes mourn and security measures expanded.

Elyria City and union reach tentative two year pact

A two year contract tentative agreement was reached between Elyria and Local 277 of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees after a bargaining session. The deal includes a 25 cent per hour raise for tenured workers from July 1 1972 to July 1 1973 and an additional 2 cent per hour raise in year two. The city council will vote at the September 18 meeting and total cost figures were not set.

Milburn Wins Olympic 116 Meter Hurdles In 13.2

Red Milburn of Southern University tied a world record with 13.2 seconds to win the Olympic men final in the 116 meter hurdles. Gay Drat of France took silver in 12.3 and Tom Hill of Jonesboro Ark earned bronze in 13.5. Ledmila Bragina of the Soviet Union set a world record 4 6 1 in winning her semifinal heats of the women's 1308 meter run.

Golf Course Robbery Massacre in St Croix

Masked gunmen attacked the Fountain Valley Golf Course clubhouse on St Croix, killing eight and injuring three as they looted wallets and about $700 before fleeing into the hills. Authorities and helicopters joined a island wide manhunt with reinforcements from St Thomas and Puerto Rico. Two victims identified as Pat Tarbert and John Gulliver, with others including tourists among the dead.
