Gold Shortage Forecast by Swedish Economist

SEFS GOLD SHORTAGE STOCKHOLM A world short age of gold and 2 consequent fall of prices are foreseen by Professor Gustav Cassel the Swedish economist who has often been consulted as an expert by the League of Nations. Gold production is shrinking all over the world especially in the South African mines he says in a quarterly review written for the Skandinaviska Kreditaktiebolaget. He notes nations will build up gold reserves to cover at least 30 percent of currency and that the gold accumulated in the United States since the war is close. He warns of a continued fall in prices impeded commerce and a general economic low mood unless measures are taken. He recommends limiting bank gold reserves to 30 percent rather than 60 and storing reserves in centers like New York or London. He also suggests lower discount rates to stimulate trade and industry.
