Storm Dorian grazes Carolinas amid power outages and evacuations
Dorian swept along the Carolina coast bringing 100 mph winds and up to 15 inches of rain as it neared the Outer Banks. Tornadoes damaged homes and trailers while more than 1.5 million people evacuated across three states. At least four deaths occurred in Florida and North Carolina due to the storm and extensive power outages affected hundreds of thousands. The hurricane disrupted flights and prompted authorities to move ships and aircraft inland with rescues and relief efforts underway for affected Bahamians.
