VEW urged to aid defense and veterans benefits
Gen Alexander A J Vandegriff told the Veterans of Foreign Wars that peace is vulnerable and urged the group to support building industrial plants for defense, stockpiling materials, strengthening forces and maintaining a trained reserve. The Marine Corps commandant urged vigilance and a national defense program at the 48th VFW encampment. The convention backed a WWII veteran bonus up to 5000 and pensions up to 100 monthly for WWI servicemen, plus daily and overseas duty allowances.
