Two held in series of burglaries in Elyria
Elyria police charged Lorain man Richard Smith 22 and Elyria woman Hailey Alba 24 after a probe into 10 burglaries at Westway Gardens since July 1. A raid tied items stolen Aug. 25 to Alba, while officers spotted Smith and arrested him after he attempted entry at Garden Street.

Elyria man sentenced to 14 years in synthetic opioid case
Pierre Alston a 39 year old Elyria man was sentenced to 169 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple drug offenses including distribution of crack cocaine cocaine heroin and fentanyl He sold mixtures of drugs between July and October 2018 as part of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge SOS which targets heroin and synthetic opioids in federal court The case involved Elyria Police and FBI with support from the Lorain County Prosecutor and was part of raids in August 2015 that yielded firearms body armor drugs cash and vehicles Results show Alston among 21 suspects cited in the operation and underscores a long history of drug offenses in Lorain County
