Judge halts Hershey Foods sale amid layoffs fears
In Harrisburg Pennsylvania a state official warned that selling Hershey Foods could trigger major layoffs in Hershey home to the world’s largest candy maker. Judge Warren Morgan issued a temporary restraining order blocking the sale while he considers Attorney General Mike Fisher’s request for review. The Hershey Trust Co. says a sale could be worth up to 15 billion dollars and diversifies holdings. 6200 workers would be affected. The trust notes Milton Hershey School benefits from the trust’s holdings and aims to protect the community. Fisher argues the sale could damage the local economy and seeks a legal pivot to review the deal. The trust maintains its bid to seek bids for diversification.
