Wellington underpass aims for November opening after delays

Wellington officials say the Main Street railroad underpass should open to traffic in early November, about a year behind schedule. A 30 day closure starting Sept. 21 will connect Depot Elm Kelly and Clay streets to the underpass, with final minor work continuing into late November if weather allows. The project began in April 2013 and faced delays when drilling beams into bedrock stalled progress, pushing costs above initial estimates but likely under earlier engineer projections.
