Ohio State extends its home opener winning streak with a 105,001 attendance, approaching the 2009 peak crowd of 105,092. The game features Bauserman to Stoneburner on a touchdown play as the Buckeyes start the season strong.
Akron coach Rob Janello lauds Ohio State as a very good football team likely to win many games and contend for the Big Ten title. OSU quarterback Joe Bauserman says he felt good about timing and leadership as he fulfilled a personal dream of playing.
Ohio State, with four returning defenders, relied on senior Andrew Sweat who had six tackles two for a loss and an interception to anchor a 42-0 win over Akron. Freshmen and senior Ebner added sacks as OSU held Akron to five first downs and 2 of 13 on third downs.
After suspensions of key players, Ohio State relied on young talent to overpower Akron.
