White opposes contract buyout for Cleveland interim chief
Cleveland Mayor Michael White denounced a state approved three year buyout for interim Superintendent James Penning worth 597000, saying it would demoralize staff and deter parents. The deal, signed Jan 5 by state official John Goff, would pay Penning if he is not named permanent CEO or cannot reach another position, with negotiations ongoing over a comparable Cleveland post.
