Social Security benefits rise faster than living costs
Washington experts note Social Security payments have grown 125 percent since 1950, outpacing a 75 percent rise in the consumer price index. Three boosts in 1970 71 and 72 plus automatic adjustments push 1974 early increases and a 1975 start for automatic rises, with a 59 percent June 1974 hike and further 3 percent-expected bumps in 1975.
