Judge reviews demurrer in Sheppard libel suit against Chronicle Telegram
Lorain County Common Pleas Judge LeRoy F. Kelly reviewed a motion to reconsider a demurrer that had dismissed Chronicle Telegram Managing Editor Peter Stevenson from a $1 million libel suit. The suit, brought by Dr Stephen Sheppard and Rocky Ryer, centers on an article Feb 14 about deaths since Dr Sam Sheppard's brother's conviction for Marilyn Sheppard's murder. The judge upheld the demurrer on lack of listed special damages. Sherman argues the piece is libelous per se and needs no special damages.

Neeson defends fishing trip with Crane before city work
Elyria mayor Charles W Neeson denied impropriety in a nine day fishing trip with City Engineer Robert E Kleinoeder and Crane Construction head James Crane of Akron. Crane funded lodging while Neeson partially reimbursed him for expenses. The trip came during Crane's ongoing 600000 sewer project and potential involvement in a 14 million waterline contract.
