Soil erosion threat prompts U S conservation plan
Officials warn that continued soil erosion may shrink crop output and trigger a shift to a less nutritious diet. They estimate 225 million acres in critical erosion and 210 million more slowly eroding, risking national food security by 1970. A comprehensive rehab program could cost 400 billion dollars and aims to halt erosion while maintaining ongoing farming.
